5 Reasons Why You Should Bring Your Dog to The Farmer’s House in the Grey Highlands (Psst... Reactive Dog Friendly Stay!)

Over the weekend, Joe and I took our two dogs - Bindi and Rosie - on a wonderful getaway to The Farmer's House in the Grey Highlands. This little trip was definitely a summer highlight for us, giving us the chance to unwind and enjoy some quality time together as a family. For the first time in a long time, I felt like we experienced a true dog-friendly accommodation! Before we had left the property, Joe and I were already planning our next trip back - it was that wonderful.

True Dog-Friendly Accommodation

Let's face it, leaving your dog behind when you’re heading out on a weekend getaway can feel stressful for many. It's often tricky to find a rental that's truly "dog-friendly" without facing strict rules, weight limits, breed bias, or other hidden restrictions for our beloved pets. After all, many accommodations can "allow" pets, but to make them feel comfortable and welcome is an entirely different ball game.

But at The Farmer's House, we found magic. It's a truly beautiful place that was enjoyable and accommodating for both us and our four-legged companions. We will most definitely be back!

Here are 5 Reasons Why You Should Bring Your Dog to The Farmer’s House!

Secluded & Serene

Tucked amongst the rolling hills of the Grey Highlands, this space is (quite literally) a breath of fresh air. The rolling landscape of the Beaver Valley, highlighted by the escarpment and views of Georgian Bay, is beyond breathtaking. We didn’t stumble upon a single person or other dogs during our stay, which is a unique (and welcomed) experience as a reactive dog owner. The entire property exudes tranquility, and our dogs quickly settled into the space. There's no better feeling than waking up each morning at The Farmer's House, sipping a cup of coffee on one of their two private decks, and gazing out over the valley. Waking up bright and early to watch the sunrise is a MUST!

Private Hiking Trails

One of the “crown jewels” of this property (and trust me – there are many!) is the 2 km of private trails at your disposal. That’s right – private!  No unexpected encounters with people or dogs, just you and the stunning scenery of The Beaver Valley. The trails are maintained with care, and to our surprise, we didn't encounter a single tick. Our dogs reveled in the experience, enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells of various birds and critters along the way.

Cozy, Comfy, and FULL of Personal Touches

The Farmer’s House is all about special touches that make everyone feel cherished. From thoughtful dog treats and bowls to luxurious memory foam dog beds, the property ensures that all guests, including our four-legged friends, feel extra special. The property is incredibly welcoming to dogs, allowing them on the property (and the furniture) without any weight restrictions. But that's not all – there are delightful treats for humans too, including s'mores kits, fresh eggs from the onsite chickens, and beautifully decorated rooms featuring thoughtful details such as wireless charging stations and a wide selection of DVDs and games. The Farmer's House also provides many different services to help you have a relaxing stay - everything from grocery delivery to spa services. They're serious pros in making you feel taken care of.

K9 Tennis Court

Although the property isn't fenced, we didn't find this to be a drawback at all. After all, the property boasts a spacious tennis court, providing ample space for our dogs to play and roam freely! Upon request, the owners are more than happy to set up the tennis court for your dogs - complete with agility equipment, a kiddie pool, and toys. Additionally, there's a small fenced dog run at the side of The Farmer's House, offering a convenient spot for dogs to quickly go out for a bathroom break at night.

For The Humans: The Immaculate Indoor Pool

In addition to the fantastic amenities for dogs, The Farmer’s House offers something truly delightful & unique for us humans: an Indoor Swimming Pool, Hot Tub, and Sauna. Guests get to choose their private timeslot for their pool time each day, allowing you to relish this fantastic space in all its glory. It's just a short 200m stroll from The Farmer’s House, making it a lovely walk in the summer or a quick 1-minute drive in the winter months! The best part about choosing your timeslot is that you can plan accordingly with your dogs. We'd take ours for a lovely walk beforehand or let them burn off some energy at the Tennis Court, ensuring that they were ready for a snooze while we enjoyed some relaxing time at the pool.

Final Remarks

Overall, this was one of our favourite dog-friendly weekend getaways that we've ever had. The Farmer's House website is beautifully done, but it does not do this space justice (I don't think any photos could!). The magic of The Farmer's House truly lies in the attention to detail, the special personalized touches, and the genuine care that the owners take for every one of their guests (both human AND dog). This, partnered with the absolutely beautiful property, made the entire weekend one to remember. Core memories, unlocked. We can't wait to come back!
